Public Health and Tropical Medicine
The Anton Breinl Centre within the SPHTM is one of the leading Tropical Medicine Research Institutions in the world with a particular focus on issues of development, Indigenous health and tropical diseases.
Established areas of research interest and the research staff . The Anton Breinl Centre Research Groups, and their Research Centres in Townsville and Cairns are highly regarded within the tropical medicine research field, and they continue to work closely with other organizations to ensure their research into tropical issues is current.
Institute of Sport & Exercise Sciences
ISES Staff and Research Students may choose a research project in any area relevant to contemporary Sport and Exercise Science including exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, sport and exercise psychology, motor learning and motor control, sport and exercise biomechanics, and exercise rehabilitation. Project may be undertaken in one of the ISES research units (endurance sport, physical activity and aging, human performance in heat and humidity in ocean sports research).
Occupational Therapy
Areas of current OT research include discipline specific studies, education focused research and inter-professional research programs. Graduates and occupational therapy clinicians can enrol in JCU post-graduate studies to engage in occupational therapy research which has a tropical, rural, remote and indigenous focus. Research is an important aspect of the undergraduate program which aims to educate well-rounded generalist practitioners. However, there has been a rapid growth in the number of Occupational Therapists who engage in postgraduate qualifications and collaborative research at JCU.
Physiotherapy
Research Students can select a research project in any area relevant to contemporary physiotherapy practice that could include clinical practice, motor development and control, pain control, neurological and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
