JCU Speech Pathology staff are highly experienced professionals with expertise in many areas of speech pathology practice, linguistics and related areas. A few areas of expertise are listed here.
ACQ editor
Louise Brown is currently a joint editor of the Speech Pathology Australia journal ACQuiring Knowledge in Speech, Language and Hearing.
Adult speech and language impairments
Louise Brown and Samantha Siyambalapitiya have clinical expertise in working with adults with speech and language impairments.
Child speech and language impairments
Several staff members have clinical expertise in working with young children and school aged children with speech and language impairments.
Children with disabilities
Susan Morrison has clinical expertise in working with children with disabilities.
Cochlear implants
Louise Brown has clinical expertise in working with communication issues for people who have received cochlear implants.
Linguistic and phonetic analysis
Dr Tom Mylne has expertise in the linguistic and phonetic analysis of language and speech.
Dr Wendy Pearce has expertise in applications to the study of disordered speech and language.
School and preschool based service delivery
Dr Wendy Pearce has expertise in providing speech pathology services in education departments. Wendy has experience working in preschools and schools in South Australia, and with project work and management of a multidisciplinary educational support team. Bronwyn has experience working in schools in Queensland and in management of a speech pathology team.
Swallowing difficulties
Louise Brown has clinical expertise in working with adults who have swallowing difficulties.
