Librarian’s Powers
Policy and Procedure
With the repeal of the former Statute dealing with the Library, Council authorised the University Librarian to continue to exercise the following powers that had been previously granted under that Statute -

The University Librarian may impose a fine not exceeding $25 on any person who without good excuse has marked, defaced, destroyed or lost any book under the control of the University Librarian, or who has failed to return as he ought to do any book taken or borrowed by him. A person who does any such act or makes any such omission shall also be liable, whether or not a fine is imposed on him, to pay to the University such amount as the University Librarian reasonably considers to be necessary to make good any loss or damage or expense to the University caused by such act or omission.

Any person who is for the time being in charge of library premises may, if in his opinion there is good and sufficient reason for so doing, require any person to leave and remain absent from those premises.
- 3.
In this statement - (a) the word "book" includes any of the contents of the library regardless of physical form;
a. the expression "use of the library premises" includes entering the library premises, remaining therein and perusing books therein;
b. the term "person who is for the time being in charge of the library premises" includes a person who is in charge of those premises jointly with another person or other persons.
