In this session we will explore Stephen Covey’s “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” and see how they apply to leadership. What does it mean to be proactive?How can I set goals and manage my time so that the important things get done? -
11 th March: Conflict Resolution: Win/Win and Empathy
(Presented by Peter Hanley)
Explore the principle of win/win and find how you can apply it in everyday life – better understand where other people are coming from and how to be a better listener. -
18 th March: Assertiveness – What it is and why we should want it?

Assertiveness is about achieving the best outcomes for ourselves and the best for others in our day-to-day interaction. -
25 th March: Conflict Resolution: Co-operative Power and Negotiation

Discover the difference between “power with” and “power over” and what personal power means for you. -
8 th April: The Tropics and JCU’s Tropical Agenda
(Presented by Professor Sandra Harding, Vice Chancellor and President of JCU)
Sandra Harding, Vice Chancellor and President of JCU, has said that ‘the tropics has become an increasingly critical global zone’. At this workshop she will speak on JCU’s Tropical Agenda and, by being a student at JCU, how you are a major part of it!

16 th April: Managing Yourself and Others
(new time and day for lecture recess Tuesday 10.00 – 12.00pm)

This session will cover some of the principles of Choice Theory and you will learn to apply them to daily decision-making and re-set your thinking to best access the resources you already have. You will also be introduced briefly to some Lead Management approaches to working with others: an alternative to the frustration of others not doing what you want! For a different perspective on taking control of your own life and working with others, attend this workshop.

This session will feature a small panel of presenters sharing their experience of volunteering and leadership overseas.

29 th April: Volunteering in the Townsville Community
Find out about some of the amazing volunteer opportunities in Townsville and the surrounding areas, and some of the benefits of volunteering with these organisations.

6 th May: Changing Perspectives – see the world through new eyes
This workshop will give you an understanding of the dimensions of cultural competence and how these relate to your university and wider community as you prepare for your professional life. You will experience new cultural perspectives directly from JCU students, and share your own cultural perspectives, thus developing your intercultural communication skills and cultural competence.
