Remote Area Teacher Education Program (RATEP)
JCU's School of Education offers a range of special courses in teacher training that give people from remote and regional communities in Queensland an opportunity to become teachers without having to leave their communities.
Bachelor of Education (Primary) via RATEP
Mode: external
Campus: administered from Townsville
JCU’s School of Education has pioneered the delivery of teacher education programs to remote Indigenous communities throughout Queensland. RATEP uses interactive multimedia course delivery, combined with short on-campus sessions in Townsville and Cairns.
The program enables education students to complete their studies in their communities and do practical teaching placements in their local schools. The success of the program can be seen in the growing number of Indigenous teachers in our region. Over a quarter of the Indigenous teachers in Queensland are graduates of RATEP. The completion of this course does not restrict graduates to practicing in Indigenous communities. Graduates are qualified for employment anywhere as primary school teachers.
