Entry Standard Required for Astronomy Online Degrees.
Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma
or Master of Astronomy.
The entry requirement
for the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Master of Astronomy is equivalent
to an Australian Bachelor level degree in appropriate discipline. Preference
will be given to graduates in the Physical Sciences although application from
other backgrounds are very welcome.
PhD and Doctor of Astronomy
The entry requirement for the PhD and Doctorate of Astronomy
is equivalent to an Australian Bachelor level degree with Honours grade I or
IIA, or a Research Masters in appropriate discipline, or a relevant Coursework
Masters including evidence of research capacity in the appropriate discipline
(the JCU Master
of Astronomy is designed to meet this need). Not all Master's degree are
research based, and JCU can not accept Coursework Masters that do not have
a substantive numerical research component for entry into the Doctor of Astronomy
degree.

What can the JCU Centre for Astronomy Offer You:
1. I Have a Masters Research Degree (or PhD) in the Physical
Sciences:-
With
a research-level Master's degree (or higher) with a major in the physical sciences
you will be eligible to apply for a place in the JCU PhD or the Doctor of Astronomy degree.
2. I Have an Australian Honours Degree with First-Class or Top
Second-Class Honours the Physical Sciences.
With a Honours Degree with First-class, or top Second-class, honours,
and with a major in the physical sciences, you will be eligible to apply for
a place in the JCU PhD or the Doctor of Astronomy degree.
3. I Have a Course-work Master's Degree in the Physical Sciences.
JCU insists
that students entering the PhD or the Doctor of Astronomy degree have some formal training
in numerical research. To qualify for a place in the PhD or the Doctor of Astronomy you will be asked to undertake some bridging programs.
4. I Have a Bachelor's Degree (or a BS degree from the USA).
With a Bachelor's
degree you can apply for a position in the Master of Astronomy degree program.
You may, if you wish, leave the program at two exit points; the Graduate Certificate
of Astronomy and the Graduate Diploma in Astronomy, or complete the Master
of Astronomy.
The JCU Master of Astronomy is designed to be the bridgeing program between the Bachelor's degree and the PhD or the Doctorate program.
