How to Apply
How Do I Apply to Enrol for this Program?
The enrollment process for the Certificate of Astronomy, the Graduate Diploma
of Astronomy, the Master of Astronomy and
the Doctor of Astronomy is a three step process:
1. Potential students must apply on this web-based application form.
In addition, the University will need proof of your previous studies. To initiate the application process, we will need a copy of your academic transcript or your degree certificate (testamur) which can be sent to us either by (i) scanned document attached to email, or (ii) Fax, or (iii) airmail post.
A transcript is a document that is issued by your university that gives the subjects, grades, dates etc of your study (see below). The degree certificate (sometimes called a testamur) is the “Degree” which many will have hanging on a wall.
(i) Email to astronomy@jcu.edu.au
(ii) Fax WITHIN AUSTRALIA to: 07 4781 5880.
Fax INTERNATIONAL to: +61 7 4781 5880 (61 is the country code, 7 is the state code, 4781 is the University code).
(iii) Post to:
Centre for Astronomy
James Cook University
TOWNSVILLE
QLD 4811
Australia
2. Conditional offer made.
On the basis of your web application and the copy of your transcript or degree, James Cook University may make you a CONDITIONAL OFFER of a place in the degree program. Normally, this offer will be made in about a week of the receipt of the transcript or degree copy.
You will be asked to accept the conditional offer and pay your fees. In addition to the course fees, there is a small service fee for the Student’s Association that is mandatory.
Payment can be by Credit Card (Master Card, Visa) or by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). If paying by card, please ensure that your card has a sufficient “daily limit” to cover the fees.
3. Your offer is made subject to confirmation of the validity of your qualifications.
Within two weeks James Cook University will need to get from you an ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT or a CERTIFIED COPY OF AN ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT of your previous studies. Unfortunately, if the University does not receive all your appropriate documents, it may result in an automatic withdrawal from the enrolment process.
We will have to ask you to request your transcript from your university and have it forwarded to us. Some universities have a web application form to arrange your formal transcript.
A transcript is a legal document that states the bonafidies of your qualifications. You will have to get your transcript from your previous university and have it sent directly to the Centre of Astronomy at the above postal address; or sent to you directly. If you have the transcript sent directly to you initially, you will then have to send the original transcript to the Centre for Astronomy at James Cook University.
Email enquiries about the program should be addressed to astronomy@jcu.edu.au
