ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS IN TOWNSVILLE
1 James Cook University On-Campus Accommodation
A limited number of beds have been reserved on campus, at two of the halls of residence. Options are self-catering, full board (three meals a day), and bed and breakfast. Details are listed below, and bookings will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. You can book on-campus accommodation when you complete the on-line registration form. Unfortunately, no double rooms will be available, so if you are bringing a partner and wish to stay on campus then you need to book two rooms. The alternative is to book a motel or hotel room (see 2 Motels and Hotels, below).

This option is provided at Rotary International House, which is a complex of 3-storey buildings, with each floor consisting of 7 single rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a communal kitchen, dining and lounge room. Each room is equipped with a single bed, study desk and chair, bookshelves, ceiling fan, internet port, telephone, built-in wardrobe, plus a vanity unit with sink and mirror. Most of these rooms are air-conditioned; however please note some are not.

This option is provided at George Roberts Hall, which is a complex of 2- and 3-storey buildings, each containing three or four bedroom units, with a common lounge, bathroom and kitchenette. Each air-conditioned room contains a single bed, study desk and chair, bookshelves, wall fan, internet port, telephone, and wardrobe. The kitchenette is equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave and kettle; please note that cooking is not permitted.

This option could be provided at either Rotary International House or George Roberts Hall, subject to availability. Conference delegates should nominate which is their preference (each is about the same distance from the Conference venue).
While we don’t have any couple accommodation as such, we would certainly be happy to place couples on the same floor/in the same unit wherever possible.
Bed linen and a towel are supplied, and rooms are serviced weekly. Bathroom toiletries (i.e. soap, shampoo/conditioner) are not provided. Coin operated communal laundry facilities are available. Please be aware that this is student accommodation, so you should not expect the same standard of facilities/amenities/services that is found in hotel/motel accommodation.
2 Motels and Hotels
If you are not staying at the University’s Halls of Residence it is your responsibility to make your own accommodation booking. As a city that attracts international tourists, Townsville has a wide range of back-packer, motel and hotel accommodation ranging from the very basic backpacker hostels to 5-star hotels and motels. Any web search of “Accommodation Townsville” will produce a variety of options; a couple of excellent web sites are listed below (but beware as they include non-Townsville accommodation options – you need to ignore any places with Ayr, Cairns, Cardwell, Charters Towers, Hinchinbrook, Ingham, Magnetic Island or Saunders Beach addresses).

Most of the Townsville hotels and motels listed are in or near the city centre, down on or near The Strand (by the beach), or on Bowen Road in the suburb of Rosslea (see the locality map below). James Cook University is sited in the suburb of Douglas in southern Townsville, and is indicated by the dark blue circle in the map. The only motel listed in the above web sites which is within walking distance of the University is the Cedar Lodge Motel on Nathan Road in Aitkenvale (very near the Ross River), but another option (located right next door to the Cedar Lodge Motel) is the Ancora Apartments and you can check out their web site: www.ancora.com.au Note that Aquarius on the Beach (75-77 The Strand, North Ward; web site: www.aquariusonthebeach.com.au) is offering a special discount for those attending the ICOA-6 Conference.
