The presence of B. dendrobatidis currently (April 1999) can only reliably be detected by looking at histological slides of digits or inguinal skin. In live frogs toes can be clipped and fixed in 10% buffered neutral formalin or 70% alcohol. In dead frogs other regions of the skin can be examined.

Instructions for collecting and submitting specimens can be found at the amphibian diseases web site.
