The Amphibian Diseases Group is a collaborative network of scientists and lay people.
Members include veterinarians
with expertise in amphibian diseases, specialists in pathogenic microorganisms,
frog ecologists, and members of frog groups. Ecologists and the frog groups locate
ill or dead amphibians and submit them to DOE or directly to the veterinarians
to determine the causes of illness and death in frogs. If veterinarians need
the assistance of microbiological or other specialists, their expertise
is called upon to give accurate diagnoses.
The system works well. Any amphibian found ill or dead has a comprehensive postmortem examination. This system has allowed the causes of amphibian disease in Australia to be determined. Data is distributed via the Amphibian Diseases Home Page and directly to individuals who provided specimens. |
