Why Study Pharmacy at JCU?

The traditional role of the pharmacist is changing. Rather than simply supplying medicines to people, increasingly, pharmacists are required to take responsibility for working with the individual to safely and economically achieve the health outcomes they desire from their treatment with medicines. Well trained pharmacists are able to:

  • understand the theory of how drugs work;
  • integrate and apply that knowledge to practical professional situations;
  • acquire appropriate dispensing skills;
  • have good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • have a regard for the ethical and legal standards required by the profession;
  • acquire the business and management skills necessary to run a pharmacy;
  • have a commitment to continuing their education.

The aim of the Pharmacy course at James Cook University is to provide graduates with the skills they will require to become modern pharmacists in the public, private or rural sectors.
