Conservation

Clausnitzer (Halle/Saale) has replaced Van Tol (Leiden) as chair of the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) Odonata Specialist Group and Frank Suhling is now the so-called Red List focal point person.. The change over occurred after the Beechworth meeting.

Books

Philip Corbet's book 'Dragonflies behavior and ecology of Odonata' Cornell UP is published, reprinted and is to be reprinted again.
This book represents the same jump from Corbet 1962 as Corbet 1962 was from Tillyard 1917.

Jill Silsby's illustrated book (publ. CSIRO) is published

Dragonfly database - dragonfiles project

As outlined at the Beechworth WDA symposium John Trueman and I believe it should be possible to 'put the Odonata on the web' ... and that we could make the Odonata the first significant taxonomic group so served (one up for the dragonflies!). To this end we are designing a database to make available information on dragonflies. We need help on deciding the content of the database. A stable alpha design is open for comment at http://www.jcu.edu.au/school/tbiol/zoology/auxillry/odonata/dragonfiles.htm and we would appreciate comments so we can finalise the design and start assembling data.
