Australian Frogs

An Australian Museum Information Disk

The Australian Museum has just released a computer Information Disc on Australian Frogs. It is an interactive program containing about 40 large full colour images illustrating the diversity, biology, and lifecycle of Australian frogs. The decline in frog populations is illustrated. A complete checklist of Australian frogs is included, with multiple common names, and there is a list of most of the active `frog groups' around Australia. There are about 70 pages of text. Both text and images can be printed in colour or black & white.

The disc has a text search facility and it can be installed so the frog pictures appear as a screen saver. Through the latest compression technology the program is squeezed on to ONE 3.5" floppy disc and when loaded only occupies 3 mb. Despite this high compression ratio, the reponse time is very quick and images are not distorted. No CDRom drive required.

It is a Windows based program requiring a PC with at least a VGA screen set for 256 colours. PRICE $15 Australian.

This disc is one of the museum's popular Information Disc series and is the second of a much improved Windows based format.

The text has been prepared by Ross Sadlier and Martyn Robinson from the Australian Museum's Herpetology and Education Sections.
