Lizards of the Australian Wet Tropics
Australia's Wet
Tropics is a band of tropical rainforest and
associated vegetation that runs up the east coast from Townsville to
Cooktown.
In recognition of its scenic beauty and biological importance, this region was
World Heritage listed in 1988. The following lizards are endemic to the
Wet Tropics:
- Bartle Frere Skink, (Bartelia jigurru)
- Thornton Peak Skink, (Calyptotis
thorntonensis)
- Northern Red-throated Skink, (Carlia
rubrigularis)
- Chameleon Gecko, (Carphodactylus laevis)
- Limbless Snake-tooth Skink, (Coeranoscincus
frontalis)
- Rainforest Water-skink, (Eulamprus
tigrinus)
- Grey-tailed
skink, (Glaphyromorphus fuscicaudis)
- Atherton Tableland Mulch-skink, (Glaphyromorphus
mjobergi)
- Prickly Forest Skink, (Gnypetoscincus
queenslandiae)
- Boyd's Forest Dragon, (Hypsilurus boydii)
- Rainforest Litter-skink, (Lygisaurus laevis)
- Leaf-tail Gecko, (Saltuarius
cornutus)
- Czechura's Litter-skink, (Saproscincus
czechurai)
- Four-toed Litter skink, (Saproscincus
tetradactyla)
