The 1999 Club Executive

Club Activities

The club meets every Saturday for a day of skiing, wakeboarding or kneeboarding (depending on the wind and boat health), starting around 8am for those keen enough to get up that early after a Friday night, and continues until about 5pm. The location of the club is shown on the map below, and is about 3km from the university as the crow flies (or cycles) and approx. 7km by car.

No peer pressure at all....

All equipment is provided (skis, boards, life-vests) and the cost per ski/wakeboard is $6 per 10 minutes for members, and $7 per 10 minutes for university non-members. Last year we got a brand new slalom ski, wakeboard, and equipment, so we need plenty of people to use them!! Everyone is welcome, whether they are beginner or expert, and while you are waiting for your turn you can play volleyball, badminton, hacky sack, play on the rope swing, observe in the back of the boat, or just sit in the shade and relax. We also aim to provide a BBQ every week for hungy skiiers, but don't get too upset if things don't always turn out as we plan them!

If for some reason we are unable to ski on Saturday (the river is occassionally used for competitions by the Townsville Water Ski Club) then we will try to contact all members either by e-mail or phone, and try to organise either another location to ski at, or a different day for skiing that week. So please remember to fill these spaces on the application form for membership.

Planned Excursions

Every year the club organises a variety of excursions, normally weekend camps to the Burdekin Dam or north to Paluma Dam. Food and drink is provided by the club, with members and non-members bringing their own camping equipment plus providing their own transport (normally we all just jump into cars together to share the cost of petrol). These trips are dependant on members enthusiasm, and are usually a great success, with a lot of money raised for the club. This means you get your money back as we put all the money raised straight into buying new equipment.

Last year we ran two such trips to Paluma Dam, and below is a photo from the August camp.

This year we hope to run at least four trips away, including Paluma Dam, Hutchins Lagoon, Burdekin Dam and up to Tinaroo near Cairns.

Fund Raising

This year we want to do a lot more fund raising to hopefully buy a new boat, or at least totally overhaul the existing boat. The poor thing has been battered and bruised after years of constant use, and the club would welcome suggestions for fund raising events.

Membership

The cost of joining the club is $15 per year for university sudents, or $20 for non-university members, which includes all equipment, e-mailing list, club excursions, and water safety training. If you have any questions concerning club membership please email:
