Student identification cards

JCU issues all enrolled students with a student identification (ID) card. This card incorporates your photograph, student ID number and enrolment status (i.e. full-time or part-time).

Your student ID card allows you to:

  • borrow books from the library

  • provide proof of ID when discussing your enrolment with JCU staff

  • identify yourself when attending exams, and

  • access buildings and computer labs.

Please keep your ID card in good condition, as a fee will be charged for replacement cards. Do not lend your card to anyone.

How do I get a student identification card?

New students

ID cards for new students studying on campus are produced during Orientation Week (Refer to the Orientation Program for session times, location and other requirements).

To obtain your JCU student ID card you will need to:

  • have finalised your subject enrolment,

  • produce your Offer Schedule, included in your JCU Offer Pack, and

  • provide photo identification (e.g. driver's licence or passport).

If you do not have photo identification, you will be required to provide two other forms of identification which includes signatures (e.g. credit cards) and sign a declaration form.

Students who miss having their photo taken during Orientation Week, may obtain a card by attending the Student Enquiry Centre at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday 9.00am - 4.45pm

PLEASE NOTE: During O Week and the first week of Study Periods 1 and 2, there will be no photo ID cards produced at the Student Enquiry Centre.

Off-campus students

If you are studying off-campus, you can request an ID card by completing and submitting a R equest for Student Identification Card form and hardcopy* photograph to the Student Enquiry Centre (Townsville or Cairns). The photograph must be certified on the reverse by a Justice of the Peace (JP) or an acceptable certification body.

Replacement cards for off-campus students can also be ordered using this form. Please ensure you follow the instructions on the form.

Replacement cards

Continuing students

Continuing students who need a new card do not need a new photograph taken, as the original is kept on file. Please attend the Student Enquiry Centre Monday to Friday between 9.00am - 4.45pm, except during Orientation Week and the first week of Study Periods 1 and 2.

With the introduction of eStudent, student Identification numbers will change from ten digits to eight. Your current student card will still be valid, but we encourage you to use the new number whenever possible. Click here for information on how to convert your number.

Damaged or lost cards

If your card is damaged, you can have it replaced at the Student Enquiry Centre for a fee.

If you return your old, damaged card the fee is $10.00.

If you are unable to return your old card the fee is $15.00.

Please note: If your stolen card is being investigated by the police, please ensure that you tell the staff at the Student Enquiry Centre.

Expired cards

If your card has expired or is due to expire within the month, please return it to Student Enquiry Centre and a new card will be issued to you free of charge.

Incorrect details on card

If the details on your card are incorrect, a new card will be issued to you free of charge upon surrender of the old card to the Student Enquiry Centre.
