What if I'm not sure if I will study at JCU in 2008?
New Students
If your course permits you may be able to defer your studies at JCU. Please refer to the 'Eligibility to defer' information outlined on your Offer Schedule and then respond to QTAC as outlined in the offer letter that you received from QTAC. If you have been made a direct offer from JCU or you are studying at a Postgraduate level, you will need to contact Admissions by email at admissions@jcu.edu.au and request to defer your studies.
If you are still not sure if you want to study in 2008, complete and return your Offer Response form anyway. It must be received by the lapse date or your offer of a place at JCU may no longer be available. You can attend information sessions that run before the study period begins and discuss any issues you may have with an academic advisor. Provided that you have enrolled in at least one subject before the first day of the study period, you will not be charged a late fee.
If you don’t respond to your Offer at all, it will lapse. If you wish to study at JCU in the future you will need to reapply through QTAC.
Continuing Students
Students who have completed at least one subject and wish to take a break from their course must apply for Leave of Absence. If approved, Leave of Absence guarantees you a returning place in your course. You should check the maximum Leave of Absence permitted in your course with your faculty office.
Students who do not apply for Leave of Absence and fail to enrol in subjects in two consecutive Teaching Periods may be declared Absent Without Leave (AWOL). Such students forfeit their right to a guaranteed returning place in their course, and will need to contact their faculty office to apply to continue their studies at JCU.
If you decide not to complete your study in a course, you will need to advise the University in writing that you wish to withdraw. Please be advised that if you withdraw from your course then wish to return to study in the same course, then you will need to reapply to the University. Your withdrawal should be directed to:
-
Townsville: Your Faculty Office
-
Cairns: Student Enquiry Centre
International students
International students who decide not to study in 2008 must advise the International Student Centre. Student visa conditions enable students to suspend or withdraw from their studies on the grounds of illness (evidenced by a doctor's certificate) or other exceptional circumstances beyond their control, such as bereavement.
Students should contact ISCSupport@jcu.edu.au or phone +61 7 4781 5601 for further information.
US students who have received U.S. Federal Aid funds at any stage during their studies at JCU must also advise the Federal Aid Administration at the International Student Centre. Contact ISCFinance@jcu.edu.au or phone +61 7 47815507.
Students should refer to the JCU Tuition Fee Policy for On-shore and Distance International Students for information about fee penalties.
For advice regarding the impact of a suspension or withdrawal on their student visa international students should contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (www.immi.gov.au).
