Scholarships and Bursaries - helping with the cost of study
There are a number of scholarships and bursaries for Indigenous, rural and remote students. Closing dates are generally in late December for study in the following year.
Scholarships and bursaries for Indigenous, rural and remote students include:
Commonwealth Learning Scholarships Value: from $2,000 Closing Date: to be determined but generally late February or early March of each year |
These scholarships assist undergraduate students from low socio-economic backgrounds with the costs of study. Special consideration is given to the needs of Indigenous students and students from rural and regional areas. The 2005 Guidelines for these scholarships are currently being amended by the Commonwealth Government. |
Hugh Alexander Grierson Trust Bursary Value: $1,500 Closing Date: 31 December of each year |
Open to applicants who identify as Australian Aboriginals, who intend to study full time at JCU. The value of the bursary is for money, books, equipment or payment for residential accommodation. |
Australian South Sea Islander Community Foundation Scholarships Value: $5,000.00 (full-time students) per year; $2,500.00 (part-time students) per year Closing Date: 28 January of each
year |
This scholsarship is open to students who identify as Australian South Sea Islanders as defined in the 2000 Queensland Government Recognition Statement of the Australian South Sea Islander Community. |
Elizabeth Cookson Memorial Bursary Value: $300.00 Closing Date: 15 March of each year |
Open to applicants who are Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders or Australian South Sea Islanders entering their Honours year at JCU in one of the following fields of study: anthropology, history, Indigenous Australian studies or literature. |
