Flexible Learning and Teaching

Definition

JCU recommends flexible learning as an approach to education that allows duration, intensity, place, method, delivery, and media of instruction to change to reflect the learning objectives, the needs of the student, the subject and course requirements and the judgement of the teacher. The aim of flexible learning is to enhance the educational experience and to increase participation and retention.

Pedagogical framework

The framework is based around the determination of critical elements within three main areas which describe flexible learning settings, with a focus on a web-enhanced learning environment:

  • Pedagogies
    the learning activities which underpin the unit;

  • Resources
    the content and information which are provided for the learners; and

  • Delivery strategies
    issues associated with the ways in which the subject is delivered to the learners.
