Teaching and Learning Academy

The JCU Teaching and Learning Academy is a joint initiative of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic (DVC-A) and the Teaching and Learning Development Unit.

The Teaching and Learning Academy will provide a space and place for ‘informed and respectful debate’ in relation to the changing culture for teaching and learning.  The establishment of the Academy is consistent with the Vice-Chancellor’s 2010 priority of ‘a scholarly community’, and with objective A2 (and its accompanying strategies) of the Academic Plan component of the University Plan 2011-2015, that is, to Promote Leadership for Teaching and Learning, specifically to Strengthen the role of the Teaching and Learning Academy to support recognition of staff development efforts related to teaching and learning .

The activities of the Academy will include:-

a yearly function in the form of a forum, workshop or conference,

         regular professional development seminars,

         the distribution of key resources,

the development of a website to host resources, commissioned research papers and details on up and coming events, and

ultimately making submissions to government on teaching and learning related issues.

The Academy’s Terms of Reference were approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sandra Harding on 17 August, 2010, and revised in 2012.
