A short introductory session for newly appointed teaching staff, and any JCU staff member seeking to update on current teaching and learning policies and issues.

Outcomes

At the end of this session, participants will have:

  • Appraised the JCU student profile and discussed implications for teaching

  • Recognised aspects of teaching and learning which are shaped by JCU policies

  • Located relevant websites relating to JCU teaching and learning policies

  • Become aware of key concepts in current theories about university teaching and learning

  • Identified features of LearnJCU

  • Questioned ways in which LearnJCU can support student-centred flexible learning

  • Located teaching and learning support available for students and staff at JCU

  • Discussed teaching scenarios and proposed responses to them which are consistent with the policy context and student-centred learning environment at JCU
