Teaching at JCU: Sessionals

This session introduces sessional staff (eg short-term contracts, tutors, adjuncts, demonstrators) to the JCU teaching context and offers practical assistance in running small group sessions. Attendance is required for ongoing appointment.

Outcomes

At the end of this session, participants will have:

  • Appraised the JCU student profile and discussed implications for teaching

  • Recognised aspects of teaching and learning which are shaped by JCU policies

  • Located relevant websites relating to JCU teaching and learning policies, especially assessment and plagiarism

  • Become aware of key concepts in current theories about university teaching and learning

  • Located teaching and learning support available for students and staff at JCU

  • Identified sources of support for themselves and for students

  • Examined strategies for planning and facilitating learning for all students.
