We invite you to attend and participate in the IIIrd International Congress on Crassulacean Acid Metabolism to be convened at Cape Tribulation, Australia from 24th to 28th August, 2001.
The CAM congress, the third in a series of international conferences on CAM which began in 1982 at Riverside, U.S.A., will be a satellite meeting of the 12th International Congress on Photosynthesis which is to be held in Brisbane, Australia from 17th to the 23rd August, 2001 (website). |

The scientific programme of the meeting is designed to communicate the most up-to-date reasearch on not only the integrated roles of structure, physiology /biochemistry and molecular biology that constitute the mode of photosynthesis known as crassulacean acid metabolism but also biotechnology research using commercially important CAM plants including pineapple and epiphytic orchids. To ensure this outcome, no parallel sessions are scheduled. Keynote addresses will provide overview statements of the current knowledge in each sub-discipline. Papers reporting new developments will be selected from submitted abstracts for oral presentation and will be accompanied by an unrestricted number of poster presentations. Selection of papers for verbal presentation will aim to maximise exposure of young researchers taking part in the congress. Posters will be a formal component of each day's programme, and will be displayed throughout the meeting in an area used for coffee breaks. Venues for interactive round table discussions will be available. Every participant will be eligible to submit a manuscript that will be compiled, subject to peer review, in a special issue of the Australian Journal of Plant Physiology. The site of the congress, Cape Tribulation (website), is a two-hour drive north of Cairns which has an international airport with direct flights from Europe, Asia, America and within Australia. Return trips between Cairns airport and Cape Tribulation are included in the cost of registration (depending upon your arrival time). The unique flora, fauna and geology of the World Heritage Australian Wet Tropics Region will feature in an full day excursion midway through the meeting and a programme will be available during the meeting for accompanying persons. This web page also includes links to firms that provide tours that highlight some of the region’s outstanding natural attractions. We look forward to meeting you at the conference.
