The Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Centre
Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor
Invites JCU Staff to participate in the
Cultural Awareness Program
The JCU Cultural Awareness Program will be conducted in Cairns and Townsville on Friday 10th June 2016.
This full-day Cultural Awareness Program gives participants an opportunity to raise their awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, kinship systems and contemporary issues. Participants will experience the sharing of personal stories and be given an overview of the impacts of colonisation and the representation of significant historical events from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective.
The Cultural Awareness Program is for those who are interested in developing their understanding of First Nations perspectives, the importance of maintaining cultural protocols and developing respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The focus of the introductory program is raising cultural awareness and will benefit those engaged in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, community groups and organisations.
Aspects of the Cultural Awareness Program will be delivered by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic and professional staff and community representatives.
