@JCU Darcee Garbin takes home gold at World Uni Games

Congratulations to James Cook University student Darcee Garbin and the Emerging Opals Australian women’s basketball team who have won the gold medal at the World University Games in Taipei.

The team, which Darcee co-captains, finished second in the pool stage before becoming the giant killers of the tournament defeating gold medal favourites the United States 76-69 in the quarter-finals, as well as defeating host nation Chinese Taipei 79-74 in the semi-final to advance to the gold medal game against Japan.

The Emerging Opals defeated Japan 85-76 with Darcee scoring 30 points.

Darcee has been a key player for the Australian team throughout the tournament including finishing with 10 points and an astounding 20 rebounds against the United States and having 18 points and 13 rebounds against Chinese Taipei to reach the gold medal game.
