QuIHN, ATODS and Patrick McKenzie are holding International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) a global event held on August 31st each year.  

The event aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. 

It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that the tragedy of Overdose death is preventable.

Prevention & Remembrance Event

Where: Queens Gardens on Gregory Street, North Ward, Townsville

When: Wednesday 31 August 2016, 12.30-2.30 pm

What will be happening?

  • Andrew Eddy, from QuIHN (Queensland Injectors Health Network), will present on QuIHNs programs and services
  • Brent Fergusson, from ATODS (Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs), will discuss overdose prevention, management and treatment.
  • Patrick McKenzie, will share personal experiences, coping with and surviving drug overdose.
  • Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics will present on how they deal with drug overdose.
  • Food and refreshments provided
  • Show bags and giveaways
