Two JCU students will venture deep into the Amazonian rainforest to document an indigenous language on the verge of extinction.

Cairns-based filmmaker Kristian Lupinski and linguist Kasia Wojtylak recently received a fellowship to document the vanishing culture of the Murui people.

The duo are currently preparing for their fieldwork in Colombia before heading off on the expedition at the end of November.

The expedition is expected to be completed by early December 2016 and will result in a documentary film titled In Murui Words.

The film will be submitted into various renowned festivals such as the Telluride Film Festival, The American Documentary Film Festival and The Sundance Film festivals.
