JCU PhD candidate Ray Holyoak has been sharing his knowledge of Townsville’s military history with archaeologist Neil Oliver in preparation for an upcoming series of Coast Australia.
Ray’s research will inform an episode focussing on how the Townsville region and its coastline have been shaped by military history, as well as examining some significant historic sites.
This is the second television series Ray has contributed to while researching his history thesis on the experience of African American servicemen involved in the Kelso Field uprising of 1942, in which soldiers turned machine guns on their officers.
Ray has previously worked on a Townsville episode of Tony Robinson’s Time Walks. The next series of Coast Australia is expected to air in early 2017.
