To recognise International Women’s Day last week, JCU Human Resources coordinated donations for the North Queensland Domestic Violence Resource Service, which operates services in Townsville and Mount Isa to support those who have suffered from the effects of domestic and family violence.

People unable to stay at home because of domestic or family violence often are in need of items such as clothing and toiletries.

After a call-out to all JCU staff, there was an incredible response, with bags, boxes and baskets full of items donated.

Items donated included:

  • New toiletries (including deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary items, soap, conditioner, shampoo, hair brushes, makeup, hair ties, moisturiser etc)
  • New women’s and children’s underwear
  • Children’s and women’s clothing (can be new or good quality second hand)
  • Handbags, toiletry bags, make up bags etc
