The winners of the Australian Society of Fish Biology (ASFB) Student Science Communication Awards were announced late last week and JCU entrants Jakob Fries (pictured in the field, above) and Cesar Herrera scored highly.

Their video, Measuring Productivity of Tropical Wetlands and Estuaries at an Ecosystem Scale finished in fourth position, and got 2803 views and 112 votes.

Congratulations!

In the Senior (Master/PhD) category Lachlan Fetterplace won with his video: “The ecology of fish on marine sand: Implications for fisheries and marine protected area management”. In the junior category (Honours) Evelyn Fetterplace won with her video: “Moral Panics and Techno-Fixes: The social shaping of shark deterrent technologies”. Both are from the University of Wollongong.

Jakob and Cesar thanked all JCU staff and students for their support and votes.

“We really appreciate it. The video will be soon available on YouTube if you wish embed it on digital networks. Additionally, Jakob’s video will be showcased at the ASFB-OCS Conference in Hobart, happening on September this year.”
