My Research in 3 Minutes Competition

3M thesis

Hi everyone,

The time is fast approaching for the annual “My Research in 3 minutes (3MT)” competition. This competition has been run successfully for several years now and is an excellent opportunity for HDR, ECRs and established researchers to have a bit of fun and communicate their research in a layman’s forum. There are also prizes for the best talks and the winner of the HDR section can go onto the next round of competition at the State level. Before we get to the JCU finals, however, we need to go through a process of first College and then Divisional elimination competitions.

One of the major aims of the competition is to celebrate and profile research within the institution and recognise the excellent researchers we have. Given that the new College is where most of JCU’s research actually happens I’m hoping we can stage a major show of the diversity and quality of College research through the 3MT competition by having good participation of HDRs, ECRs and academics from across the whole College. Three reasons – first to showcase the excellent research we do, secondly to help bridge the understanding of everyone in the College on some of the different research conducted, and thirdly as an excuse to have a College wide social event to bring us together more.

This year the College 3MT competition will be on Wed 10th August, in both Cairns and Townsville, and the winners (2x HDR’s, 1 ECR and 1 ER) will progress to the DTES event on the 29th August.

Can I please encourage you to consider nominating for the College event this year. To nominate please click on the following link  http://alumni.jcu.edu.au/3MTCompetition by the 29th July so we can plan the event effectively. Supervisors of HDR students, I’m not sure I can reach all the PG students so can you please pass this email on within your research groups and again encourage your students to participate.

Thank you and if there are any questions please give me a call.

Kindest regards,

Dean
