New book bridges academia and Aboriginal tradition

@JCU New book bridges academia and Aboriginal tradition

JCU scholars Yvonne Cadet-James, Robert Andrew James, Sue McGinty and Russell McGregor have published a new study of a North Queensland Aboriginal group: Gugu Badhun: People of the Valley of Lagoons (AIATSIS Research Publications, Canberra). This innovative book bridges historical scholarship and Aboriginal oral tradition to tell the story of the Gugu Badhun people from the upper Burdekin River. It offers new insights into Aboriginal-European interactions and new understandings of how Aboriginal people sustained their identities and exercised agency.

Gugu Badhun: People of the Valley of Lagoons will be launched by prominent Gugu Badhun woman and JCU PhD candidate Janine Gertz at Mary Who bookshop, 5.30pm on Thursday 27 July.
