Three JCU students have been awarded the Roobiny Sivananthan Memorial Fund bursaries for 2017.

The funding will allow the final year vet students to take part in a rural vet placement.

This year's recipients are Christopher Bozzo, Madison Levers and Zoe O-Brien.

This fund was established in January 2016 as a tribute to honour the memory of late Dr Roobiny (Biny) Sivananthan who graduated from James Cook University in Veterinary Science in 2011.

Dr Roobiny Sivananthan passed away suddenly on 27 October 2015. Roobiny achieved a great deal in her life, particularly throughout her education and followed her passion to become a vet like her uncle.

As a graduate of James Cook University's College of Veterinary Sciences (Class of 2011), and a person who strived to achieve the highest professional standard, she was very committed to her job and the people of Mount Isa and North West Queensland.

Since graduation, Roobiny Sivananthan dedicated her Veterinary Service to the North West Region of Queensland, both in Mount Isa and in the regional rural communities of Boulia, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Karumba and Normanton.
