Safe Zone for Townsville campus

James Cook University has set up a ‘Safe Zone’ for students and staff on its Townsville campus, as part of a range of measures it’s introducing to prevent and address sexual assault and sexual harassment.

The room is a safe place for students and staff who might be waiting for a bus at night, or who feel uncomfortable or threatened.

The Safe Zone has couches and chairs and is adjacent to JCU’s Security control room in the Student Mall, and is overseen by security staff.

See map for the Safe Zone’s location: https://maps.jcu.edu.au/campus/townsville/?location=29

Since 2016, JCU has partnered with other Australian universities in a national initiative lead by Universities Australia, the Respect. Now. Always. campaign.

The campaign highlights the determination of Australia's universities to ensure students and staff are safe from sexual assault and sexual harassment.
