@JCU The Academy and Regional Futures: A focus on change
Wednesday 15 November, 12.30 - 2.30pm
Take time out to contemplate and debate with colleagues some of the higher order challenges facing the communities we serve.
Northern Queensland is a place of diverse landscapes and peoples. How do the global political dynamics that have seen the rise of Trump and the realisation of Brexit manifest locally? How do communities develop in a post-truth world where people are expressing a loss of faith in institutions - including government and universities, and are engaging with corporations and each other in a digitally mediated, peer-to-peer world. What does automation mean to the industries that have provided work for the north, mining and agriculture, and increasingly services? Who will be left behind in a technologically changed world? Are we in a paradigm shift, is this the new industrial revolution, a new epoch? What is the role of a university in working with a community to navigate such changing terrain?
Listen to short 5 minute thought-provoking presentations by Professor Sandra Harding, Professor Ian Atkinson, Dan Christie, Kate Sheppard and Seth Jones before joining in for a robust discussion with your questions, insights, analysis and arguments.
