Varsha Balu is a PhD Candidate at James Cook University working within the ITRH's scope of 'Improving aquatic animal health'. Varsha's project explores the role of early on-farm pathogen detection as a means to prevent disease outbreaks in aquaculture systems. Her research will involve the development of these on-farm rapid diagnostics using eDNA and immunoassay technology, particularly looking at Cryptocaryon irritans infections on Barramundi farms.
