Indigenous Health Careers Access Program (IHCAP)

IHCAP is a pathway into a health degree for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. It provides students access to academic and social support services by dedicated and experienced staff.

IHCAP is the only one of its kind in tropical Queensland. It offers a 3-4 week orientation, which is held at JCU Townsville each year in January. During that time, you will complete our Effective Writing subject as preparation for university study.

The program continues to provide practical skills and knowledge to better cope with demands of university study. We focus on:

  • Learning and study skills
  • Support networks
  • Skills in coping with the demands of study, family and community, and
  • Budgeting and planning life around university study.
