What you can do now

  • Reflect on your core values, motivations, interests, skills, strengths, and personal attributes. Knowledge of who you are and what is important to you will assist in moving your life in the direction that is right for you.
  • Free resources to assist with self-exploration and identifying occupations which may match your interests, skills and personality include: MyFuture, My Next Move: O*Net Interest Profiler, Personal Values, Holland Code (RIASEC) Test and the Big Five Personality Tests
  • Visit Your CareerMyfuture and Good Universities Guide for information on numerous careers.
  • Complete the 'You and Your Career' module in JCU Employability Edge.
  • Download the Career Snapshot specific to your degree for information on career paths and opportunities.
  • Scan job vacancies listed on general (eg. Seek) and sector specific (eg Dentist Jobs Australia) job boards, or view the careers section on employer websites to see what type of positions are available with your degree.
  • Scan the Graduate Recruitment sites, JCU CareerHubProsple and GradConnection for information on graduate positions, internships and vacation programs relevant to your degree.
  • Go to the Alumni (graduate students) section on James Cook University LinkedIn page to investigate the career paths of graduates in your fields of interest.
  • Investigate your career relevant professional body to gain greater awareness of developments and opportunities within your future industry area.
