Position Description

The Bike Workshop Mechanic is responsible for providing a free or low cost bicycle servicing and maintenance service to JCU staff and students as part of the university’s TropEco program.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Demonstrated experience in bicycle servicing and maintenance.
  2. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  3. Knowledge of workplace health and safety and ability to put it into practice to ensure a safe working environment.
  4. Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills in working with people from a variety of backgrounds.

Desirable

  1. Experience in a university environment.

Position Description

The Environment Support Officer is responsible for supporting environmental management activities on JCU campuses and sites as directed by the Manager, Environment. Activities will align with the university’s environmental policy and relevant management plans and may include; designing and implementing environmental management programs on campus for energy, water, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable transport, and natural assets management (biodiversity).

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Demonstrated experience in environmental management activities, particularly in the areas of natural asset management, waste reduction and recycling, energy, water and/or sustainable transport.
  2. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  3. Demonstrated experience in weed management and revegetation programs.
  4. Possession of an ACDC ticket or ability to quickly obtain certification.
  5. Demonstrated effective written and interpersonal communication skills in working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  6. Demonstrated experience with computerised systems and/or databases.

Desirable

  1. Experience in a university environment.

Activities will align with the university’s priorities outlined in the sustainability framework and may include; engaging with staff, students and the wider community, and promoting and implementing sustainable programs on campus for energy, water, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable transport, natural assets (campus biodiversity), sustainable construction and renovation.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Demonstrated experience in implementing sustainability initiatives for an organisation, particularly in the areas of operations and stakeholder engagement.
  2. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  3. Demonstrated experience in organising and running events and community engagement activities.
  4. Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise to meet competing deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
