Volunteer opportunities in student support and engagement for JCU students:

Position Description and Key Accountabilities | The Careers Fair Support Crew are responsible for assisting the Careers and Employability team with the smooth running and implementation of the Careers Fair on campus. Duties include:

Position Description and Key Accountabilities | Open Day Volunteers are involved in most aspects of the event including staff registration, welcome marquee, escorting guided tours, set up/ pack down of the event and more. |

Position Description and Key Accountabilities | The JCU Student Mentor Program matches experienced, successful students (Mentors) with commencing undergraduate students (Mentees) from the same course of study during O Week. JCU Student Mentors are trained as peer volunteers and agree to share their knowledge and experience with new students to help them transition through their first study period at university. Mentors role model the qualities necessary for academic success and also provide ad hoc support to students on campus when wearing their mentor shirts. |
Recruitment Information | A current undergraduate student who has completed all of their first year subjects (min. overall GPA 5.0) and successfully applied to the JCU Student Mentor Program with the endorsement of an academic referee. Position Description and Key Accountabilities | The Volunteer Note Taker Scheme assists students who are unable to take adequate notes due to a permanent or temporary disability, injury, illness or health condition. The volunteer note taker must be enrolled in the same subject as the student requiring the notes. Note takers are not required for all subjects and may be needed for the whole semester or a portion only. Notetakers are not required to produce a complete transcript of the lecture, just the materials they would use as a reasonable record of the lecture material. However, the notes provided need to be clear and understandable by another reader (including using only abbreviations generally used in that subject) and add to the material potentially already available in the lecture slides. |

Position Description and Key Accountabilities | Volunteers participate in teaching sessions acting as patients (simulated) to medicine, veterinary, pharmacy and physician assistant students. These sessions enable the students to practice their clinical skills in a safe non-threatening environment. When partaking in communication sessions, volunteers may be provided a role play, thus enabling the students to develop their communication skills. Sessions can involve acting out a scenario such as travelling overseas and requiring pre-immunisations (medicine), owning a property with sick horses (veterinary), requiring advice for over-the-counter medication (pharmacy). Another role includes a physical examination. These are non-invasive and include examinations of various systems such as respiratory, neurology, and abdomen. |
