The College of Arts, Society and Education provides research students with support from academic staff who have national and international expertise in the range of specialisations offered and close links with the educational and wider communities they serve.
Our Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students are supported by our partnerships with The Cairns Institute, the Visual, Digital, Material Research Group, the ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage, the Language and Culture Research Centre, the Anthropological Laboratory for Tropical Audiovisual Research (ALTAR) and the Tropical Archaeology Research Laboratory (TARL).

The Graduate Research School's (GRS) role is to support research education throughout James Cook University (JCU and developing and refining the University’s overall Higher Degree by Research (HDR) strategy. The GDR provides a range of research administrative services, including managing and overseeing all aspects of the life cycle of candidature from admission to examination. To ensure excellence in supervision, we also coordinate the accreditation and registration of HDR Advisors.
