General Information
As a postgraduate student enrolled in LB5520, it is a requirement that students self-source their own placement. This can be done either through a student's existing workplace OR students can choose to self-source workplaces that interests them most.
Students will receive communications regarding placement from placements@jcu.edu.au and are to communicate from their '@my.jcu.edu.au' email address at all times. This helps us easily identify you.
Please select one of the following:
Eligibility, applying and enrolment
To be eligible to undertake LB5520 Professional Experience, students must have completed a minimum of 21 credit points of LB5, CO5, CP5 or TO5 subjects (depending on degree/program), and permission from the placement coordinator. Required learning outcomes, requirements of the subject and subject assessment can also be found in link above.
- To apply, use the Current Employer application form
- Liaise with your subject lecturer to discuss a relevant workplace project. Discuss the project with your workplace supervisor (project must be separate from your current role in the workplace)
- To submit your application, email to placements@jcu.edu.au
Enrolment into this subject is by approval from the placement coordinator.
What happens next?
- Application will be assessed by the subject lecturer
- Student will receive an email advising of outcome
Closing Date
Two weeks prior to the commencement of Study Period.
Sourcing a placement host
Some ideas that may assist in sourcing a placement host:
- Use existing contacts or make new contacts through student associations, professional networks, JCU career events or your subject lecturer
- Research businesses or firms which fit your area of interest and expertise
- Consider what qualifications, skills and expertise you could offer the business/firm
- Be professional and confident
