PhD Topic

Mobility Pattern Mining for Smart Places and Industries

PhD Dissertation Topic

Aims:

  • Mining human (student, teacher, and tourist) mobility pattern mining for smarter universities and smarter tourism

Background and significance:

  • Availability of mobility data through hand-held GPS-enabled sensors;

  • Smart places and industries require to understand user behaviors to enhance intelligence;

  • Mobility pattern mining to reveal and understand human mobility patterns;

Overall goals:

  • Student mobility pattern mining: 1) to improve learning experience; 2) to provide personalized (grouped) information; 3) to understand moving/staying/studying/socializing/etc patterns based on year of study, major of study, etc;

  • Teacher mobility pattern mining: 1) to improve teaching experience; 2) to provide personalized information; 3) data-driven pedagogy; etc

  • Tourism mobility pattern mining: 1) to improve travelling experience; 2) to provide personalized location-aware peer-aware information; 3) to understanding travel behaviors for many categories (such as nationality etc);

Data:

  • Can use some online available datasets for test;

  • Could collect local data using our students and teachers for our experiments which requires to use our eduroam to real-time collect data and store, analyse, mine and visualize datasets

Ethics approval:

  • If this research requires to collect data from our students, and Cairns tourists, then it needs to have an ethics clearance.
