Information on Trimester Transition
Students studying Undergraduate Business, Commerce and Tourism courses from College of Business, Law & Governance will be moving from Semesters to Trimesters in 2021. Most Law courses will continue with the current Semester 1 and 2 course structure over the upcoming year. See the full list of affected courses.
A Trimester calendar splits teaching into three study periods, rather than the current Semester model of two study periods per academic year. The Trimester model are shorter 10-week blocks of study as opposed to the current model of 13 weeks. The Trimester model has a mid-Trimester lecture recess week and a nine week summer break.
Studying your course over the Trimester model may give you the opportunity to spread your subject load. Under the current model, you may study four subjects per semester, however, under the trimester model you may study three subjects for two trimesters and two subjects for one trimester. This will allow you to better balance your work, social, and university commitments.
All students currently studying a course which will be impacted by the Trimesters (including double degree students) will be provided with a personalised Study Plan by 30 November 2020 to assist you to plan and enrol in subjects for 2021 onwards. Dual degree students’ study plans will be structured to separate study into trimester and semester study periods.
