Over the past 40 years Psychology at JCU has earned a strong reputation for the integrity of its courses and the quality of its graduates. Psychology was a foundation discipline at the beginning of James Cook University in 1970 in Townsville, at the opening of the Cairns campus in 1987, and at the establishment of the Singapore campus in 2003. Across all three major tropical campuses (Townsville, Cairns and Singapore), student enrolments in psychology place the discipline as the third largest at JCU.
College Student Support Officers College Student Support Officers provide personalised support to students in targeted courses or disciplines within each College. Support officers work with students to: Identify ways to succeed at university; Connect students to relevant services, and Help students attain their educational goals. Professional experience placement (PEP) is a crucial and formal component of all health science courses. Placement prepares you for registration and/or accreditation as a professional in your field and supports you to be 'work ready' when you leave university.
During your placement you will go out into the workforce to apply and practise the skills and knowledge you've gained at JCU. These workplace-based clinical and practical education experiences might occur in facilities on or away from campus.
Subject LibGuides The Psychology LibGuide is an online guide for Psychology students and staff at JCU. It will help you find the information you need to complete your assignments and research.
Psychology Liaison Librarians The JCU Library provides liaison librarians for all of the major discipline areas. You can use this form to ask us a question, get help or request an appointment with your liaison librarian.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is the organisation responsible for the implementation of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme across Australia. Each health profession that is part of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme is represented by a National Board.
The textbook requirements for each subject are available online approximately two months prior to the course start date at the Co-op Bookshop (search by campus and subject code).
Students can order online and click and collect texts from the Co-op on-campus in Townsville or Cairns, or have delivered to your home address. The Co-op also offer a student textbook buyback scheme for those textbooks you no longer need.
Students may also find used copies of textbooks via online bookshops such as StudentVIP. It is important that you purchase the correct current edition of the text.
The JCU Library has limited copies of all prescribed textbooks available for 2 day loans.
The IT Help Desk provides Students with a first point of contact for all IT Services offered by ICT at JCU. This provides consistent and efficient handling of general IT enquiries, service requests and fault reporting and facilitates in the rapid restoration of normal service to the JCU community.
eStudent eStudent help is available in the top right hand corner of each eStudent page or from the eStudent Online Help website, including frequently asked questions and eStudent troubleshooting help.
JCU Email As part of the admissions process, you are given a Microsoft Office 365 student email account to manage your university email, calendar, contacts and tasks. All official email correspondence from JCU with regards to the management of your academic record will be sent to you at this email address so you should get into the habit of checking it regularly. Refer to O365: Email, OneDrive and Office for guidelines and assistance.
Virus Protection JCU provides Sophos Antivirus Software for staff and students at no charge. Registration, required software, and documentation are available from the ICT website.
