Information for new Interviewers

The medical program at James Cook University (JCU) has a distinctive regional mission with a focus on the needs of rural, remote and underserved communities, tropical medicine and the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The College of Medicine and Dentistry aims to lead positive change in health and medical care for communities of tropical Australia and beyond through socially accountable health education, discoveries, partnerships and advocacy that make a difference. Underpinning our work is a shared commitment to social justice, a passion for innovation and a commitment to excellence.

We need interviewers from a broad cross section of the community with a commitment to the strategic intent as outlined above. We run four-hour training sessions (including a catered refreshment break) for all new interviewers so you will be well prepared for our panel interview process.

All interviewers are required to agree to the Interviewer Confidentiality Statement. After reading this agreement, if you feel you may have a conflict in participating, please contact us directly on

Interested in being part of our selection process?

In order to be placed on an interview panel you must complete a training session.  If you are interested in volunteering in 2018 for the 2019 intake, please Register now for one of the following training sessions.

What kind of commitment do I have to give as an interviewer?

The bulk of our interviews are held over an eight day period towards the end of November and early December as well as one day in January.  Each day interviews take place from 8:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

If you are available to participate in the interview process, we ask you to nominate for either a morning/s, afternoon/s or full day session/s. The amount of time you are able to give is completely up to you.
