Townsville Campus

Medical students are based at the Townsville campus for Years 1-3 of the MBBS. Students are based at either Townsville or Cairns for Year 4. In Years 5 and 6, students are wholly located at one of our clinical school sites in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Darwin.

During the first three years of medicine, students are taught foundation sciences, anatomy, pathology, rural medicine, ecology of health and many other subjects (see the Course Handbook for detailed information).

Students on Townsville campus have access to Eddie Koiki Mabo Library, the student mall and student centre, food outlets and a gym.

In addition to the medical student facilities, the Townsville campus is home to a huge medical research facility with several research groups, including the Queensland Centre for Peripheral Arterial Disease, which undertakes ground-breaking research on Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA).

The Clinical Practices Building was officially opened in 2013 and contains a multidisciplinary clinic – JCU Health – as well as a café, pharmacy and supermarket.
