Piloting a continuous quality improvement framework to strengthen quality of care in Aboriginal residential aged care.

About the project

People with dementia generally have high care needs, which can often result in them requiring respite or permanent residential aged care. Rates of dementia in Aboriginal people aged 45+ in residential aged care are reported to be as high as 67%. The recent Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety found that care provided through the Australian aged care system is substandard in both routine and complex care, including the management of dementia. This study aims to develop and pilot a Continuous Quality Improvement framework and accompanying tool kit of materials and resources for improving quality in the provision of dementia care and promoting resident health and well-being in Aboriginal residential aged care facilities. The are several small to medium projects available which would suit summer scholars through to Masters degree students. This project also has the potential to be extended to suit PhD studies.
