About the Environmental and Public Health Microbiology Research Group

For many infectious diseases the ecology of the aetiological agent remains poorly understood. A better understanding of the microbial ecology of pathogens can have important public health benefits. As such, we established the Environmental and Public Health Microbiology Research Group (EPHMRG). Much of the research conducted by the EPHMRG focuses on the ecology of microbial pathogens and their interactions between environmental reservoir and host. Other research with a direct focus on public health microbiology is also undertaken.

EPHMRG Research areas:

  1. The Ecology and Biogeography of Melioidosis
  2. Tuberculosis in PNG
  3. Co-infection in HIV positive people in PNG
  4. Sago Haemolytic Disease
