Surgery Room

Have you every wondered what happens inside a Veterinary Surgery Room?

JCU Vet has a dedicated surgical suite with theatres for soft tissue surgeries such as injuries, and orthpaedic theatres, for surgery on bones such as fractures.

Surgeons work with a whole range of specialists including anaesthetists and radiologists who provide the diagnostic images and xrays on the extent of the injury or problem. JCU Vet Clinic also host visiting surgeons twice a month for assistance on complex and critical cases.

One example of the types of surgeries that are performed in the suite are arthroscopies, where a surgeon makes a small cut in the knee or elbow and inserts a camera to see problems with the joint. They also repair cruciate ligaments (tears in the tendons around a joint) and perform spinal and reconstructive procedures such as improving airways for animals that may have problems breathing, like bulldogs.
